Single, not available

I referred to myself as a single woman the other day, and someone said to me, "But you're not single."

"Um...sure I am," I responded.

The way I see it, I live on my own, pay my own mortgage and various other bills, mow my own lawn, shovel my own driveway, and take my car to be fixed. Among other things.

If I wasn't single - I would have someone to share all those responsibilities. Yes, I can ask for help - but Trooper is free to say no. It's not his responsibility - just like I don't have "responsibilities" at his home, either.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining. I'm happy to be on my own.

The way I see it - I'm single, but not available. I'm happily monogamous with Trooper, and love spending time with him, and am excited to see where our relationship is going. [Personally, I think it's going pretty well.]

All that being the case, I'm certainly not available to anyone else - and neither is he.

We're both single, but not available - until further notice.

  1. That's a great way to look at it.

Unless you can claim eachother on your taxes.. you are SINGLE!

    I love it.
    YAY TO BEING "NOT AVAILABLE!"

  2. Everyone is single until legally married. There is a difference between single and in a relationship. Some people think they are not single because they have a girlfriend or boyfriend. But legally, they are single.

  3. I like this take on monogamy. I always feel like I'm soooo freaking scared to not be the single one... Becuase I've always been the single one. So I sabotage what could be a great relationship to not lose that "single" identity. I'm going to start thinking about things your way, Single yet Not Available. I love that!

  4. Hey, I live with someone and STILL consider myself Single.
    And, so, until proven otherwise.

I like your extended take on this sort of partnership. We have no intentions on being married. But the relationship works and operates underneath that exact descriptor: Single, Not Available - for both of us. :)

  5. It seems too complicated to me for someone to say I'm single but not available. If someone were to say that to me, I'd think they were not seeing anybody exclusively and just not looking for anything at the moment.

Mind you, I can be pretty literal sometimes and I hate it. Ha ha.
